Who is Tokyo Rose?

During WW II Radio Tokyo broadcast shortwave throughout the Pacific, music and news aimed at the Allied Forces. The announcing staff included approximately six women who were raised and trained in the US and spoke unaccented, American style English. Whenever a female voice was heard the troops referred to her as Tokyo Rose. Most of the broadcasts were blatant propaganda. As the war dragged on, the Tokyo Rose legend grew, particularly when the press corps picked it up. At the end of the war reporters streamed into Japan, hoping to find the now “bigger than life” Tokyo Rose.

Tokyo Rose the Musical

lion-smallerTOKYO ROSE – THE MUSICAL is the story of the plight of Iva Toguri.  She was unjustly accused of committing treason as the radio propagandist Tokyo Rose during World War II. The is based on a true story.  The author has taken dramatic license in adding two fictional characters: “Kabuki Tiger”, who serves the role of a Greek Chorus, commenting on the action in the form of Haiku interludes accompanied by a taiko drum, and “Tokyo Rose – The Myth”, who personifies the soldiers’ and press corps’ fabrication of a sultry temptress broadcaster.

Here are my thoughts re: TOKYO ROSE THE MUSICAL
I think you have a winner on your hands.  The story is vibrant, true and universal, especially with today's challenges regarding freedom of speech. It has drama, history, love, music and deep humanity.  There is a poignancy to that period of history that makes stories from that time compelling. They never grow old.  They are heroic.
